On 24/04 a baby whale of about 5m length washed ashore at the Corralejo centre. The lifeless body did not show any external signs of damage. The Local Police, the Guardia Civil and the Medio Ambiente were at the site to recuperate the body for further examination. Please see below a slideshow of the action.

OKAPI, a lot of volunteers and visitors succeeded on the 29 of August to collect about 1.500,- Euros for the rescue, feeding and medical assistance of the more than 300 abandoned animals in the municipal perreras. In the name of those pets: "Thank you all for your kind support".

FACTS AND FIGURES Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Isles after Tenerife. From the north to south, between the two capes Punta de la Tiñota and Punta de Jandia, it is a full 98 km as the crow flies. It is 30 km across at its widest point, but only 5 km at its narrowest point, the Istmo de la Pared, which separates the main part of the island, Maxorata, from the Jandía peninsular. Apart from Pico de la Zarza in the south, the highest peak in the western interior ist the Atalaya mountain (Betancuria), which is 724m high.
