line on the road from Corralejo to El Cotillo, lies the little town of Lajares. This boasts both a football stadium, built in 1990, and a lucha canaria arena, built in 1981. The ARTES
ANIA LAJARES, where you can watch the woman making lace and embroidering, is open from 9.00 to 19.00 hrs throughout the week, and till 13.00 on Saturdays. The tablecloths and serviettes on sale are hand-made, yet still affordable. A few kilometres to the south, in the part of town called CASAS DE ARRIBA, there are two well-preserved mills next to the village chapel - the older, fat MOLINO, and on the roof of a hous
e, the more graceful MOLINA from the
19th century, which was still in use until up to around 20 years ago. The aging miller and his wife still live in their mill, and inside everything is almost unchanged, as if time had stood still, and the mill just stopped working yesterday. In years gone by, the local people came from all around, on foot or with donkeys, to grind their roast grain to make gofio.
